Johnny was born in Frankfurt Germany as his father was working for the US army in Germany. His family transitioned to Lakewood, WA in 1987 and he grew up there through his high school. He finished his graduation at Eastern Washington in 1998 with BSME.
Johnny Barnachea has made great contributions to Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) through his engineering and problem solving skills. He is a team player with a focus on process and product improvement, making him a perfect candidate for the SASE Professional Achievement Award. During his time at DTNA, he has worked on several major projects and been successful in developing new products and improving the overall work culture.
Johnny started working at DTNA in 1999 and has since been involved in numerous large projects expanding the product portfolio and improving the flagship product. In his first 9 years with DTNA, he was a key member of the Custom Engineering group developing diverse product knowledge and custom option solutions for utility lights, aero devices, side extenders, bumpers, mirrors, upholstery, insulation, interior lighting and HVAC, to name a few.
In 2009, he transitioned into the Cab Comfort group with focus on auxiliary heating and cooling solution products. Additionally, Johnny was very instrumental in the designs for the Gen2 eP4 and eM2 eRC, eWH and the refrigerant and heater plumbing. That work has allowed Johnny to easily transition into supporting the Gen3 ePX (new generation heavy-duty electric semi-truck) development work. His latest exemplary contributions have been to design and package the new center mounted HVAC and ducting into the 47E (New generation Medium-duty electric semi-truck) cab. Johnny has been working on a very complete and complex HVAC model to send out with the RFQ and Spec Book. Johnny’s great attitude and incredible skills have allowed him to “flex” and help other groups in critical situations as workload increases and he is always willingly help others to be successful.
Throughout his career (advancing from Entry level to Sr. Engineer), Johnny has shown the incredible ability to innovate, problem solve, and develop projects to successful completion. He is always thinking about the product and solutions that are available to bring the company into a bright future. His impact on the product and the work culture demonstrates his ability to succeed in the future.
His primary hobbies these days are mainly watching his kid’s extracurricular activities such as baseball, tennis and volleyball and supporting them. He hope to get back to fly fishing, veggie gardening and the occasional road trips.
